The school nurse is responsible for assessing and identifying health needs of students. Many students have special health needs that require nursing and health management at school. The school nurse works with students, families, school staff, and health care providers to provide appropriate health management while the student is in school. Besides the individual management of special health needs, the school nurse provides: First aid and emergency nursing care Care of the sick and injured Medications and Treatments Health counseling Health education Maintenance of student health records Vision, Hearing, and Postural Gait Screenings Please contact the school nurse if your child has: Special health care needs, treatments, or medications (update whenever there is a change). Communicable disease or condition such as strep, chickenpox, head lice, or ringworm. Injury or condition requiring any limitation of activity, including cast, splint, brace, crutches, or ace wraps. Parent must provide a note from physician or health care provider indicating specific injury and activity restriction. Change in emergency information (home or work phone, address, or daycare, etc).
